First Annual Conference for Teachers of the Deaf

 

Outreach in collaboration with the Division of Exceptional Learners and PATINS is currently planning a two day conference for Teachers of the Deaf. Topics that will be covered include universal design, children with additional disabilities, and technology and cochlear implants. In addition, we plan to discuss other unique challenges and needs within the field.  The conference is scheduled for August 3rd & 4th at Sanders Elementary School in Indianapolis.  If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Lawrence,  CLawrence@isfd.state.in.us .

 

Deaf Nation Expo/PTCO Day

 

On May 1, 2004, the Deaf Nation Expo will be coming to Indianapolis. This year the Expo is collaborating with ISD and will be combining ISD’s annual PTCO Day with the Expo. The event will take place at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in the Marsh Ag/Hort Building from 9am-6pm and is free of charge. The Expo will have exhibitions, a film & video festival, workshops, seminars, and entertainment by Deaf magician, “Magic” Morgan and Deaf comedian, John Maucere. Summer School at ISD

 

Summer School at ISD will be held from July 12-23, 2004 with the purpose of preparing students for the ISTEP test. Students from mainstream or other  programs may apply, however, all instruction is in ASL. Family Conference

 

 

The Department of Health Newborn Hearing Screening Program in collaboration with Outreach Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children throughout the State of Indiana, will be hosting a conference for families of newly identified deaf and hard of hearing children that will take place on July 16-18, 2004. The purpose of the conference is for parents to receive more information regarding intervention, communication and rights for their child as well as to network with other parents of deaf and hard of hearing children and professionals in the field.     Camp Willard

Camp Willard is a summer camp for deaf and hard of hearing children who will be entering grades 3-12 in the fall of 2004. It will be held at Tippecanoe River State Park in Winamac, Indiana. All deaf and hard of hearing children, regardless of educational program, are invited to participate in this exciting Summer camp.  This year two sessions will be held, the first being a traditional camp for children entering grades 3-6 and runs from Sunday  June 13-June 18, 2004. The second session will be an Outdoor Challenge and is offered for adolescents entering grades 7-12. It runs from Sunday, June 20 to Friday, June 25,2004.
